Self-Portrait of a Petroleum Engineer
I am a sophomore petroleum engineer in the making. I have completed some major courses related to petroleum engineering such as, physical and petroleum geology, and drilling engineering. I have managed to maintain my GPA throughout these three semesters and have learned a lot of new concepts. My interests are mainly in Reservoir Engineering and Simulation which stem from my deep-seated love for math and pure sciences. In addition to my major in petroleum engineering, I am also taking courses to complete minors in chemical engineering and mathematics. My interests also include problem solving, model building and engineering drawing.
Throughout my career as a student, I have acquired some very useful skills that would help me in future as a petroleum engineer. Coming from a British high school system, Ordinary (O) and Advanced (A) Levels, I have undergone intensive testing and examination routines. I was also the highest achiever across 8 O-Level subjects in Pakistan. Because of the tough and diverse nature of A Levels exams, I am able cope up with the diversity of subjects offered at Texas A&M. The concept-based learning and detailed syllabus of Advanced Level subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Math and Biology) not only sparked my interest for engineering, but also made the first year of college much easier. I acquired analysis skills that would further help me in my career as an engineer and a technical communicator.
I am an avid TV watcher in my free time and also like to read novels. At Texas A&M, I have upheld my performance by making it to the Dean’s List in the freshman year. I aspire to keep up my performance and learn all the skills that would make me a successful petroleum engineer.
